One Fish, Two Fish

One of our favorite school activities is Dr. Suess Night.  He was such a great author and Ticasuk Brown Elementary does a great job at setting up and putting on this night celebrating his works.

Facepainting is always fun.

Wouldn't be complete without birthday cake.

Listening to stories in the library.

Always good to see some friends.

There's gold in them hills!

One fun thing we did with Grandpa and Grandma was go to Gold Dredge No. 8 for a gold mine tour.  It was a little rainy that day, but we still had a great time.

First we took a little train ride and learned about how miners removed gold from the ground.

Then we went to the gold dredge.  It was huge!  This is the big machine they used to extract all the gold that wasn't very easy to get to.  It was amazing to learn about all they did to make this work!

After that they handed out sacks of pay dirt and we all panned for gold!  Someone's got gold fever!

Everyone got some gold and it was such a fun outing.  I love that tour!  The gold dredge is right by the Alaska Pipeline too, so we were able to see that as well.

O-Day

Another fun outing in July was to O-Day at Globe Creek Campground.  We had a lot of fun playing around and being together.  It was a gorgeous day up in the mountains.  The food was good and the people were nice.  It was a great time!

Libby had fun kicking the ball down the hill, carrying it up, and kicking it down again.

Some of the kids found a way across the creek.  Kim had fun with this.  Another little guy wasn't so lucky and fell in!  Oops!

It was kind of funny to see all the kids getting wet, either a little wet or a lot!

Kicking back eating lunch!

Globe Creek Camp!

After the adults got done with cornhole, the kids gave it a go!

There was a great playground with lots of rope toys.  One of the favorites was this giant rope swing.  The kids played with it for a LONG time!

Libby wasn't quite big enough for the swing, so she trekked across the logs instead!

Denali by Train

This summer we took an opportunity to ride the train to Denali and back.  It was such a fun experience.  Here is the train depot in Fairbanks.

The kids were really excited to get on.

We spent a bit of time in the back where you can look out.

Denali Depot

We had about 4 hours so we went on a hike in the park.  It was a nice day out and only sprinkled a little bit.

After the hike we played in the water.

I love this picture of little feet!

Someone had a meltdown.

Then we got ice cream to eat while we waited for the train.

Here it comes!

Getting back on!

Long day, but fun!

New Cameras and Family Outings

Ryan got a new camera in June and we have really been enjoying it and the great pictures it gives us.  One evening shortly after we got it, we took a walk to Creamer's Field.  We had a great time walking around, enjoying the beautiful world, and, of course, trying out the new camera.
