Yukon Quest

In February we were able to go to the start of the Yukon Quest, which is a 1,000 mile sled-dog race across Alaska and The Yukon of Canada. It was a little cold out, but not too bad. After a little hot cocoa, everyone felt better. Liberty was the coldest and she cried quite a bit. After we got home, however, she told us that she had fun. Silly girl! We were right be the start line and it was great to see the dogs run right by us.

Warm enough Kim? I think she had the most fun!

Here's a video of a team starting!

A dog team with booties and jackets. It's amazing that these teams and people can go so far on their own!
The musher of this team was wearing a Dr. Suess hat to match his dogs jackets.
We saw this sign in the downtown and thought it was funny!

In the Kitchen

Liberty is such a cutie! She was "cooking" with her cereal and a muffin pan.

Super-Duper Cold

Brrrr! One Saturday we woke up to -59* F! It was so cold out! We had a fun day inside and enjoyed being together. Sunday brought -60*! I couldn't believe it! We must surely be official Alaskans now!

We're running out of thermometer here! Fortunately, it has been nice and mild the past few weeks so we've been able to get out and enjoy the winter more.

Here's a video Ryan took Saturday:

Glade and I had fun making pretzels for Family Home Evening one day. The kids enjoyed eating them while watching a movie! I hope they always remember to Choose the Right!

Kim's Rainforest Project

Kimberly recently had a project to do for school. Each of the kids choose a rainforest animal to learn about and work on. They had to build a 3-D model, do a presentation, and be able to answer questions about their animal. Since Kimberly is a very creative person, she decided to make her project out of salt dough. She really enjoys painting and creating things.

Thinking about what her project needs. I love the smear of paint on her forehead.
The finished project: A Keel-Billed Toucan. Great job Kimberly!

A Show

Our kids love to put on "shows." They do it for just about every holiday, or sometimes just because. This is a show they put on in mid-January. This picture is part of a play that they made up.

They always have music and dancing too. It is fun to have so much creativity in the house.

Winter Fun

Even though it gets pretty cold here at times, it is still a fun place to live. Ryan went skiing one day in January when it was pretty cold out. He bundled up and had a great time being outside. It is so pretty here in the winter!

Sunset through the birches.
Nice white mascara there! :) Note from Ryan: Do not try to defrost your eyelashes using your glove. This may result in a numb eye.

Return of the Moose

We love having moose in our yard and hadn't seen one for a few months when we spotted this little guy out there. You can tell the kids really get into it.

The Nest

It doesn't take much for the kids to get creative. Ryan moved the weight bench 45* and the kids decided to make a nest. Most of the pillows and blankets in the house were involved.
