Ryan had Friday off so we decided to head over to Capitol State Forest. It's not too far, so it was a short drive over. We got to take the Jeep out and were glad we had it. It was a beautiful day. We found a place to park the Jeep.
We went on a hike down to the Porter Creek, where we ate lunch.
Then the kids threw rocks into the stream.
The way back up is always longer and harder, but both of the kids did a really great job on the hike.
The plan was for Glade to have a quiet time/nap in the tent, but that didn't quite happen. I think it was too exciting to be in the tent and playing. In the end, Ryan was the only one to sleep in the tent while Kim and I played cards.
It was starting to get cold, so we pulled out the grill and grilled the shrimp we bought that morning. They turned out pretty well. Kimberly LOVES shrimp, but no other seafood, so she was happy.
Then it was time to pack up and come home. We decided it was too cold to stay overnight, plus it was supposed to rain all night and all day Saturday. It was a great day though and we had to take advantage of the sunshine. Now it is all rainy and will be all week. I think we'll check out Capitol State Forest again in the spring when they will hopefully have all of the roads open.
